Obituary for Martha Kasting
Martha Ellen Fraser Kasting, 90, of Windy Hills, Louisville, Kentucky, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018, in the care of her devoted husband and also while in Hosparus care. She succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease. Martha was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Miles and Lila H. Fraser. Martha was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, as is her husband, Richard.
Martha spent most of her life as a scholar. She earned her BS in Chemistry from Wellesley College in 1949 where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, she was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York, where she met her husband to be.
Martha later earned a Master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). She taught mathematics for twenty-five years at UAH and the University of Louisville. Martha is survived by her husband, Richard Kasting, her three children  Gerald, James, and Sandra, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Martha met Richard when she was 22-years-old and was married one year later. She was known for being a generous, caring, passionate and articulate person. She loved needlepoint, sewing, gardening, bird watching and her beloved pet cats. She enjoyed show music from her mother, who, in her youth, was on stage in a vaudeville company. Martha especially cherished The Sound of Music. She adored Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed these games until her final months. Martha most loved the family summer cabin in southern Indiana. She fancied rustic-living, warm sand under her feet, grilled dinners and having her family around her.
Services to celebrate Martha’s life will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church, May 26th, 2018, 2501 Rudy Lane, Louisville, Kentucky. A visitation will be held from 10:30 am until 12:00 noon with a service immediately following.
